What We Do
Githabul Nation Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC acts as agent for the native title rights and interests of the Githabul People. GNAC’s work includes native title responsibilities, cultural authority, caring for Country, cultural heritage protection, community wellbeing, governance and respectful engagement connected to Githabul/Gullibul Country and the Githabul Indigenous Land Use Agreement.
Public Context
GNAC is the Registered Native Title Body Corporate for Githabul People, ICN 4709. The Githabul Indigenous Land Use Agreement is between the Githabul People, GNAC and the NSW Government. It recognises Githabul native title rights and is connected to joint management arrangements across national parks, reserves and state forests in northern New South Wales.
Native Title Rights and Interests
GNAC acts as agent for the native title rights and interests of the Githabul People recognised in the 2007 native title determination.
GNAC works to support the protection, management and proper exercise of those rights and interests for Githabul People.
Githabul ILUA and Joint Management
The Githabul Indigenous Land Use Agreement is an agreement between the Githabul People, GNAC and the NSW Government. It recognises Githabul native title rights and is connected to joint management arrangements across national parks, reserves and state forests in northern New South Wales.
GNAC works through ILUA-related responsibilities, cultural authority and governance processes to support respectful engagement, proper consultation, land management and caring for Country.
Caring for Country
GNAC supports caring for Country through cultural governance, land and water responsibilities, cultural monitoring, site protection, environmental stewardship and respectful on-Country engagement.
This includes working with relevant agencies, land managers and partners where engagement aligns with GNAC’s cultural authority, governance processes and responsibilities connected to Country.
Cultural Heritage and LORE Protection
GNAC works to protect and preserve Githabul LORE, language, songlines, sacred sites, cultural heritage and cultural knowledge.
Sensitive cultural information, sacred site details, songlines details and restricted knowledge must not be published or shared without GNAC approval.
Cultural Services and Engagement
GNAC may consider requests for Welcome to Country, cultural heritage services, cultural advice, project engagement, land management, consultation, endorsements and other fee-for-service activities connected to Githabul/Gullibul Country. All requests are subject to GNAC review, cultural authority, availability and approved processes.
Community Wellbeing and Future Generations
GNAC works to support the social, emotional, cultural and economic wellbeing of Githabul/Gullibul People. This includes strengthening opportunities for Elders, families, young people and future generations.
